New (Old) Ringo Starr Live Album to be Re-Issued

The folks at Friday Music have just announced two coloured, limited edition vinyl editions of a 2007 Ringo Starr title, Live At Soundstage.

One is on burgundy swirl vinyl:

The other is on gold metalic:

It’s the first time this live performance has been on vinyl. It was originally a CD-only release which came out in 2007.

Recorded in 2005 for a televised Live At Soundstage concert held at the beautiful old Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois, it features Ringo with his band The Roundheads – Greg Bissonette, Matt Bissonette, Gary Burr, Steve Dudas, Mark Hart & Mark Hudson.

The band work their way through some great tracks including ‘It Don’t Come Easy’, ‘Photograph’, ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’, ‘Don’t Pass Me By’, ‘Back Off Boogaloo’ and this one, ‘Octopus’s Garden’:

The venue looks amazing, Ringo is clearly in fine voice, and the band is tight:

The records come in a gatefold sleeve and both are available for pre-order now. They’ll ship in Spring. The burgundy swirl LP is here, and the gold metalic is here.

Just a word of warning though. There’s not a lot of love for Friday Music pressings (or engineer Joe Reagoso’s mastering – which these are) on Discogs. See the Comments section of Discogs on the label page.

  1. Friday Music has one other big problem besides the mastering issues mentioned above: customer service, specifically, the lack thereof. Pleased to see they were releasing Ringo albums not previously on vinyl (Soundstage and Ringo Rama), I ordered one each directly from Friday Music, the first back in February.

Live at Soundstage was released ten days ago and has been in stock at Amazon since then. I have yet to receive notice that my copy is even being prepared for shipment. This is a real insult to shoppers who reward smaller companies like Friday by ordering directly to let them keep more of the actual profit–and paying for shipping that could have been avoided by ordering from Amazon.

Also, they do not respond to queries sent via their own site, and there seems no way to cancel an order once placed.

    • Thanks for your comment Tom. Agree that the Friday Music business model is an odd one, and puts the customer at a disadvantage. Firstly very vague and broad release “dates” like “Spring” or “Fall” and then, as you say, when the item you’ve ordered actually has been released you can buy it quicker and have it delivered by third parties. And it is very worrying that there’s little to no customer support. Certainly does not build confidence and repeat business. We have the added frustration, being based here in Australia, that a double LP like Ringo’s Soundstage set costs A$100+ to purchase and ship……
