Wings Book – Super Deluxe Edition Announced

Liveright Books has just announced a special numbered, limited edition of Wings: The Story of a Band On The Run, signed by Paul McCartney. There will be 175 copies available for the US market, and 175 copies for the UK market.

These limited signed edition books are packaged in a deluxe cloth case featuring screen printing, including a 24-page full-colour bound-in booklet of Wings-era album and singles cover artwork (front and back). They also include an exclusive colour vinyl 1 LP (with unique labels) of the forthcoming Wings: The Definitive Collection release. There’s also a special enamel pin and a blue and white embroidered patch.

Each copy will be numbered and signed by Paul McCartney.

On sale from November 25, they’re available now for pre-order (if you can find one). The limited edition has a RRP of £2500 or US$4,000.

This is a lot of money, but they will sell out and become genuine collector’s items for sure.

As has become usual with these limited McCartney book releases various retailers undertake a variety of promotional activities to entice you to secure a copy – and they probably only get one copy each. This bookshop is asking you to enter a competition just to win the right to BUY the only copy they have for sale!

Check out this link for a full list of all US participating bookseller locations.

In Britain it’s the same. For example, the big Waterstones chain there is offering a chance to win the limited edition version in a prize draw. The competition is open to all customers who order the standard hardback online from them.

Meanwhile, here in Australia this record store has this super deluxe edition for sale at an incredible AUD$24,999.00. That’s around US$16,315.00, or £12,397.00 British Pounds, or €14,094.00 Euros. Blimey!

Liveright also published special deluxe editions of McCartney’s two previous books, 1964: Eyes of the Storm; and The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present.

  1. Beautiful! This could potentially be the most exquisite deluxe Macca book yet!

Though I wonder where it was made? The Lyrics deluxe was printed/ bound in China.

The Eyes Of the Storm deluxe was printed in Italy, I believe.

Also, hard to tell if the book itself is cloth with print or leather like and embossed?

Other than Waterstones, are there any other UK/ Euro sellers to confirm an additional 175 copies printed by the likes of Allen Lane-Penguin for sale?

Lastly, the signature, will it be abbreviated, non archival marker, neat or erratic ?

I’m obviously getting nerdy with these releases.

    • Hi, yes it will be interesting to know where these are made. I didn’t know that The Lyrics deluxe was produced in China.
Regarding the outer cover, the websites say: “packaged in a deluxe case made of cloth with screen-printing”, so not embossed leather.
Good question about the 175 for the UK. I’m pretty sure we confirmed through our readers that for The Lyrics there were separate limited editions for each territory, and therefore someone in the UK had a book, say, numbered 50/175, while there was another of our readers who had the same 50/175 number in the USA. I’d have to go back and look at all the correspondence we got but I’m pretty sure that the was the finding. So, when Waterstone says there are 175 I’m assuming they mean just for the UK because that’s the exact same terminology they used last time.
As to the signature – really don’t know. It says “individually signed by Paul” so I guess he just sat down one day and did them all?! Full signature I’d guess.

    • The difference between one Paul signature and the next these days is really noticeable… I recently visited the Gagosian exhibition of Paul’s photography in London, where he signed all of the prints (presumably all on the same day) and they were were all so different from each other. Some had the full Paul McCartney sig, others had P McCartney, and a couple where you could only just make out the P McC………

I have a signed print by Paul, from the Linda McCartney retrospective that was held at Kelvingrove gallery a few years ago, and mine says P McCartney, and I hadn’t seen a signature of his like that prior to seeing mine.

I would love to get my hands on one of these books… but having to enter competitions just to get the chance to buy one means my chances are very slim!
